Ignite! OPENS Committment to Online LEarning for School Year 2020-2021
The Durham Public Schools Board of Education has adopted Plan C (virtual learning) for the second nine weeks of the school year. As we move toward planning for the remainder of the academic year, Durham Public Schools will offer families the opportunity to express their commitment to continue virtual learning through the end of the school year 2020-2021 should we return to in-person learning. This opportunity will be offered through Ignite Online Academy when and if we begin the in-person transition.
Requesting your seat means that when students in your child’s grade level return to in person or blended learning under the district plan, your student will remain fully online with Ignite. Should you decide not to fill our an intent form and confirm a seat, your student will remain aligned with the DPS plan for this school year.
Families who have already expressed interest in Ignite earlier this school year AND families who would like to conmmitt to online learning now should complete this new form: Ignite Online Academy Intent Form.
Families will not lose magnet enrollment if they are enrolled in a magnet program and can continue to participate in clubs, sports, and student life through their child’s base or magnet school. However, they will receive their instruction fully online through Ignite. Students would be given the option to return to in person or blended instruction at their base or magnet school for the 2021-2022 school year.
Families should consider their decision a commitment to online learning for the remainder of this school year and should complete their commitment form by October 9, 2020.
*NOTE: If you would like to request a seat for multiple students, please complete a separate form for each student.
