Ignite! OPENS Commitment to Online LEarning for School Year 2020-2021
The Durham Public Schools Board of Education has adopted Plan C (virtual learning) for the second nine weeks of the school year. As we move toward planning for the remainder of the academic year, Durham Public Schools will offer families the opportunity to express their commitment to continue virtual learning through the end of the school year 2020-2021 should we return to in-person learning. This opportunity will be offered through Ignite Online Academy when and if we begin the in-person transition.
Requesting your seat means that when students in your child’s grade level return to in person or blended learning under the district plan, your student will remain fully online with Ignite. Should you decide not to fill our an intent form and confirm a seat, your student will remain aligned with the DPS plan for this school year.
Families will not lose magnet enrollment if they are enrolled in a magnet program and can continue to participate in clubs, sports, and student life through their child’s base or magnet school. However, they will receive their instruction fully online through Ignite. Students would be given the option to return to in person or blended instruction at their base or magnet school for the 2021-2022 school year.
The current commitment period is closed. A week long period will reopen should the DPS Board of Education move any grade levels to Plan B.
